Filmmaker's Viewfinder
ReleasedA director's viewfinder that fits in your pocket.
Simulate any camera and lens combination on your phone's live feed: sensor formats, cinema focal lengths, anamorphic squeeze. Then capture geo-tagged reference frames, check exposure with false colour, and export studio-ready PDF shot reports for your crew.
Answer the framing question before the truck arrives.
Optical director's viewfinders are expensive, single-purpose, and rarely in the right hands at the right moment. Meanwhile the decisions they inform (which lens, which format, does this location actually work) get made on scout days, weeks before a camera package exists.
- Test a full lens series against any sensor format, on the actual location.
- Capture what you found with the specs, GPS and timestamp already attached.
- Hand your director or DP a formatted report instead of a folder of unlabelled photos.
Viewfinder, light meter, and scouting notebook.
Multi-format sensor simulation
Preview framing for Micro Four Thirds, Super 35, Full Frame, Large Format / VistaVision, Medium Format and ARRI ALEXA 65.
Optical maths engine
Calculates exact field of view by pairing your device's native camera specs with the target sensor and focal length, from 12mm to 200mm and beyond.
Anamorphic & adapters
Squeeze factors from 1.25× to 2.0×, plus adapter multipliers for speedboosters and teleconverters.
Cinema lens database
Technical and aesthetic profiles for legendary glass (Cooke Anamorphic/i, ARRI Master Anamorphic, Zeiss Supreme, Kowa Evolution) covering character, bokeh, flare, sharpness and minimum focus.
False-colour exposure
Real-time exposure evaluation with adjustable EV offsets, so you can check skin tones, highlights and crushed shadows on location. Plus rule-of-thirds, crosshairs, a gyro digital level and a colour-temperature reader.
Geo-tagged capture
Every frame records GPS coordinates, camera specs, focal length, aperture and timestamp automatically, filed into your project, scene and location hierarchy.
See it working.
Everyone who has to see it first.
Directors
Visualise shots, block talent and communicate exact framing to your DP before a heavy camera package is on the floor.
Cinematographers
Test lens series, verify focal-length pairings across sensor formats, and check exposure during pre-vis.
Location scouts
Document locations with exact camera specs, GPS tags and visual reference frames, then export the report.
Camera operators & 1st ACs
A quick field tool for focal-length conversions, sensor crop calculations and depth-of-field planning.
Students & independents
High-end optical simulation and pre-production organisation without renting specialised optical viewfinders.
Producers
Clear, formatted shot and location reports that make scouting decisions legible to everyone on the production.
